Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes the information handled when someone visits or uses Chatham County Court Docket. It explains the types of visitor data that may be collected, the reasons it may be used, and the outside services that may process it. Use of this resource is subject to the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

Information entered into a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and returns its own results. We do not maintain or log search terms on our own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

If an email or other direct message is sent to us, it may be retained to respond and keep a record of the correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page is requested, ordinary server and device information may be collected to operate, secure, and understand use of the resource.

  • The IP address associated with the request.
  • The browser, version, device type, and operating system.
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them.
  • The referring site when one is supplied.
  • The date and time of each page request.

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies and analytics tools may be used to measure traffic, recognize basic visit patterns, and identify technical problems. Browser settings can block or limit cookies. Some parts of the resource may function differently when cookies are disabled.

What We Do With This Data

Visitor and technical information may be used for routine operation, performance, and service support.

  • Maintain and improve page availability and loading performance.
  • Pass search requests to the provider selected for that tool.
  • Measure broad patterns of use and identify useful content.
  • Diagnose and correct technical errors.
  • Support advertisements that may be tailored by advertising providers.

No Court-Record Data on File

We do not host, compile, maintain, or sell a database of Chatham County dockets or personal case-file information. This resource describes public routes to the Chatham County Clerk of Superior Court, the trial courts, and the statewide eCourts Portal. Under G.S. 7A-109, court files, dockets, and indexes are maintained by the clerk and public inspection is subject to applicable limits. Nothing collected from visitors is assembled into consumer reports about third parties.

Third-Party Search Partners

Search boxes displayed on this resource are operated by third parties. Data entered into those tools is governed by the provider’s own privacy notice and retention practices. We do not control a provider’s processing, sharing, result set, availability, or pricing. Review the provider’s policy before submitting information.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to North Carolina court pages, clerk resources, the public eCourts Portal, legal-information sources, and outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this resource, the receiving site’s policy controls the visit. Review that policy before sharing personal information.

Advertising providers may also collect activity across websites for their own advertising purposes. Such activity occurs through their systems rather than ours.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Information may be processed or disclosed in limited circumstances, including the following:

  • Search providers that receive a query entered through a search tool.
  • Analytics services used to measure traffic and performance.
  • Advertising networks that serve content on these pages.
  • Government bodies or law enforcement when a valid legal demand requires disclosure.

How We Protect Your Data

We use reasonable security measures for the information we handle. No internet-connected system can promise absolute security, and we cannot guarantee that a security incident will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If we learn that such information was provided directly, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.

Your Data Rights

North Carolina’s court-record access rules concern official records held by public custodians, not a private resource’s visitor-data practices. G.S. 132-6 addresses reasonable inspection and copying of public records, while public court-file access remains subject to statutes, orders, and confidentiality limits. At a minimum, a visitor may:

  • Request a copy of direct personal information retained in a correspondence record.
  • Ask for correction of inaccurate direct-contact information.
  • Request deletion of retained direct-contact information where appropriate.
  • Limit or opt out of certain browser-based tracking through available browser controls.

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy when operational or legal practices change. Any revision becomes effective when it is posted here with an updated effective date.

Effective date: August 31, 2026
